James B. Griffin James B. Griffin, LLC - law firm focusing on estate planning, probate, and property law

The biggest risk to manage for your business is your life and health, without which your business and family would be in jeopardy. My law firm is about the "preventive medicine" of estate planning, which also might be described as part of your "financial fitness." Because you are not easily replaced, the best leadership you can exert is to prepare your company to be profitable without you, and the most important vehicle is your business-succession plan. The very act of thinking through all the troubles that would come if your business lost you might likely reveal the best solutions to present and future challenges. Furthermore, the market value of your business is based not just on its current profitability, but whether it would remain viable without its founding leadership. I can write for you an estate plan which would likely increase your business' viability and value by eliminating at least some of the uncertainties of the future. Moreover, the analysis would likely benefit current productivity and profitability. But let's get past the utility of an estate plan. Making an estate plan is a giant step in your life because you are facing your own human frailty with thoughtful courage. Examine carefully what you need to do through my free white paper, "12 Ugly Mistakes You Must Avoid in Estate Planning," and then contact us.

Kate Atwood, Vice President of ChooseATL ChooseATL - Community Nonprofit Organization Management

Kate is an entrepreneur and a community leader who has built a career on heading-up social impact initiatives in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors.

In 2002 she founded Kates Club, a nationally-acclaimed not-for-profit based in Atlanta that provides support to children and teens facing life after the death of a parent or sibling.

Following a successful founder transition in 2010, she went on to serve as the Executive Director of the Arbys Foundation where she refocused its efforts on a new strategic mission that more closely aligned with the Arbys brand. She also helped the organization contribute more than $18 million to ending childhood hunger in the United States.

In September 2015, Kate joined the Metro Atlanta Chamber, to lead the recently launched ChooseATL platform as Vice President. As VP she is responsible for focusing the regions narrative to showcase all that metro Atlanta has to offer with the purpose to attract and retain top talent.

Topics/Questions: Background: Do you know what all of the following statements have in common?

#1 Moving Destination in the Nation in 2014 #2 City of Millennials #4 Metro Area with Fastest Growing Young Population #5 Metro Area for Job Growth from 2013 to 2014

If you guessed that they all describe Atlanta then you are exactly correct. In order to maintain these credentials, key Atlanta organizations are rallying behind the notion that the next generation of economic development must be centered on attracting and retaining fresh, qualified talent.

Thats why this March, Atlanta groups ranging from indie bands to film producers to startup entrepreneurs to regional municipalities - will be packing up and heading out to take over SXSW. Over the course of five days, representatives from all over the metro region will highlight the abundant career opportunities across our 29-county region, as well as our unique culture and highly ranked livability.

QUESTIONS: - What is ChooseATL and why are you attending SXSW this year? - Who are the key players from the metro area that are going with you? - What is ChooseATL's doing while at the festival and what do you hope to achieve? - What is the economic development importance of the trip? - How will this trip impact the economic development of Atlanta beyond 2016? - How can Atlantan's get involved both in Austin and back home?

The Deej's Background I guess I could have an “About Me” section like everyone else listing all the companies that I worked at and use a bunch of buzz words that mean nothing except maybe to a bee.

The thing is I never was much like anyone else. Maybe you are the same way.

My family gave me your typical immigrant, small business owning type of upbringing. We worked in the family store before and after school and learned not only the business but how to communicate with grown-ups.

My first business was a Butcher shop in NJ when I was 18. It was converted into a Deli (D.J’s Country Deli) and I had it for 8 glorious years. Then I sold it and moved to Atlanta as a Stockbroker and learned to sell like an animal.

Wanting to get back on my own I started and built up to sell a Pest Control Company, then a Lawn Care Company, then a truck rental business. In all of these ventures my responsibility was the sales for, and growth of the businesses.

You may have noticed that my resume does not include College. My real education came in the form of an eight month hitchhiking trip around the United States on America when I was 22 years old. I travelled with no money and no plan. The idea was to get jobs along the way and meet as many people as possible.

The trip taught me most of the sales and human relation skills that I use today and will share with you.

In a way, I am still on this trip and I would love to meet you.
